Comment on the SFC Student Satisfaction and Engagement Survey
The Scottish Funding Council published their latest report on student satisfaction at Scotland’s colleges, with student satisfaction at over 94% for the second year running.
The Student Satisfaction and Engagement Survey for 2023-24 was carried out over an eight-week period between 4 March and 26 April 2024.
Nine out of 10 full-time students were satisfied with their college experience: 94.4% and 88.2% of full-time further education and higher education students respectively, with even higher satisfaction results for part time students, with 95.9% for further education and 89.1% for higher education part-time students saying they were satisfied with their college experience.
Overall, 94,939 full-time and part-time college students were surveyed for the report.
Dr Graeme Jackson, interim Chief Executive of Colleges Scotland, said: “I am delighted to see consistently high levels of satisfaction amongst students, particularly those who study part-time as colleges work hard to ensure a positive student experience for this group, who are often juggling study with other demands on their time.
“This data is a real testament to the hard work of staff and leaders who work tirelessly to ensure students have a great learning experience while at college.
"I recently listened to the First Minister of Scotland emphasise the critical need for increased investment in public services and infrastructure, particularly highlighting the role of colleges in equipping the workforce with essential skills to drive Scotland's economic recovery. This type of investment will be will be key in ensuring continued high levels of satisfied college students who are being equipped with the skills that the economy needs now and in the future.”
