International Women's Day
International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.
In Scotland’s colleges, 51% of students and 61% of staff women and women. In addition, 42% of college principals and 57% of senior leaders are women.
To celebrate International Women’s Day, colleges across the country are holding events and activities today.
Some of these activities include:
Borders College
Borders College Students’ Association has been asking students and staff who their inspirational woman are and why, and are creating a display of the responses along with a wall of inspirational women and icons, some are familiar faces, and some are women who are lesser known to be displayed in the student space.

Edinburgh
The Edinburgh College Students' Association is running crafting activities, all accompanied by an epic playlist of empowering music by female artists. One of their talented students has written a poem especially for the day and will be performing a short reading at the event. You can find out more information and read her poem here.

Fife College
Fife College is highlighting inspirational student stories including two students who will be heading to study and live in the US for the summer, thanks to a scholarship from the college and Fife College computing graduate Kelly Hunter who is now a Software Development PhD student.

Glasgow Clyde College
Glasgow Clyde College is hosting an International Women’s Day breakfast with guest speaker Vee Toyi – a trailblazer who was among the first to conduct Equality Impact Assessments (EIA) after the implementation of the Equality Act 2010.

West College Scotland
West College Scotland have been running two have two events for International Women’s Day. The first was for the college community, featuring a range of inspirational speakers on topics such as Women in STEM. The other, a fireside chat with Principal and Chief Executive, Liz Connolly and Chair of the Board of Management, Dr Waiyin Hatton, highlighting the importance of gender equality, diversity, and women's empowerment in the workplace and beyond.
