Exam Results Day - Colleges Scotland urges Pupils to Choose College
As SQA exam results are announced today (Tuesday, 8 August 2023), Colleges Scotland is encouraging school pupils to consider going to college.
Shona Struthers, Chief Executive of Colleges Scotland, said:
“Congratulations to everyone who is receiving their exam results today either at school or college – you should be proud of your hard work and achievements.
“Around a quarter of a million people come to college every year to learn new skills and gain qualifications that will get them straight into great careers and I would urge anyone getting their results today to consider choosing college.
“Colleges are great places to be – the technical and “hands-on” training which takes place at college is practical and unique, from laboratories to workshops to salons to kitchens. The skills provided ensure college graduates have the fit-for-purpose competencies employers’ demand. Alternatively, almost 12,000 apprentices are learning while earning every year. And thousands of other people are taking advantage of part-time or evening classes to improve their skills while working full-time.
“An incredible 94% of learning provided leads to recognised qualifications, which in turn means improved employment and earnings opportunities. So, with employers crying out for skilled workers, colleges are increasingly relevant destinations for school leavers, and I encourage all of them to contact their local college and see what life-changing courses are on offer.”
