Comment on SFC’s Higher Education Students and Qualifiers Report
Commenting on the Scottish Funding Council’s Higher Education Students and Qualifiers 2020-21 Report published today (Wednesday, 4 May 2022), Shona Struthers, Chief Executive of Colleges Scotland, said:
“The report shows that the that the figures for higher education students and qualifiers in Scotland is at a record high and it is encouraging that the number of students studying higher education in colleges has increased by 7%.
“This demonstrates that a substantial proportion of students continue to start higher education courses in colleges, which deliver 24% of all higher education in Scotland, with 65% of those studying on a full-time basis.
“Colleges have a fundamental role to play in supporting and facilitating alternative pathways, providing a valued and accessible route into higher education for many people whilst providing learners with the skills and qualifications to succeed in the workplace.”
