Comment on the Tertiary Education and Training Bill

The Tertiary Education and Training (Funding and Governance) (Scotland) Bill has been passed by the Scottish Parliament, and will reshape Scotland’s skills, training and post-school education landscape.

Colleges Scotland has supported the Bill’s central ambition to streamline and simplify the skills and training landscape - bringing funding for national training programmes, apprenticeships and college provision together under the Scottish Funding Council (SFC).

Gavin Donoghue, CEO of Colleges Scotland said: “The Bill is an important step toward a more strategic and connected tertiary education and training system in Scotland. The legislation recognises the central role that colleges play in supporting learners and regional economies.

“Key to the success of the planned changes will be the introduction of a new national strategy for tertiary education, skills and apprenticeships. Colleges Scotland will work closely with Ministers on funding priorities and to help to articulate Scotland’s skills needs across the country.”
