Colleges Scotland congratulates WorldSkills competitors
Colleges Scotland has congratulated the winners and participants at the recent WorldSkills Competition in Lyon where over 1,500 competitors participated on the global stage to showcase their technical skills.
Under intense competition conditions, apprentices and students studying vocational qualifications from across the UK joined competitors from 69 countries at the ‘Skills Olympics’.
Competitors from four colleges in Scotland travelled to Lyon, with two Scottish colleges fielding winners in their categories:
• Nathan Young – Medallion for Excellence, Mechanical Engineering CAD. Nathan attends University of West Scotland and previously studied at New College Lanarkshire, Scotland.
• Finley Graham – Medallion for Excellence, IT Network Systems Administrations. Finley attended City of Glasgow College and is now studying at Glasgow Caledonian University, Scotland.
Tom Hall, Senior Policy Officer at Colleges Scotland, said: “Scotland’s colleges have once again delivered strong performances shone brightly at the WorldSkills Final where our students and apprentices showcased their abilities on the international stage.
“We send huge congratulations to all the competitors and to Nathan and Finley who received Medallions of Excellence for their efforts.
“WorldSkills is the global hub for Skills fantastic competition and Scotland’s colleges are proud to be part of a really successful WorldSkillsUK Team.”
WorldSkills UK is a four nations partnership between education, industry and UK governments, uses the insight it gains from participating in the international WorldSkills Competition to embed world-class training standards across the UK. Pearson, the world’s lifelong learning company is the official partner of Team UK for WorldSkills Lyon 2024.
There were 25 skills categories at the event and over 250,000 people watched the event online.
WorldSkills Lyon 2024 took place from 10 -15 September. The next WorldSkills Competition will take place in 2026 in Shanghai, China.
