CEO announces resignation from Colleges Scotland

Shona Struthers, CEO of Colleges Scotland, has announced she will be leaving the role in the coming months.

Shona said: “As CEO it’s been a privilege to work on behalf of our members, all 24 colleges in Scotland, over the past 10 years.

“I’m really proud that the visibility of the work that colleges do has risen, and that there is now much more political and public recognition of the value of college education. College student success, equity and opportunity has always been at the forefront of my mind in this role and I’m pleased that the value and contribution of colleges to Scotland’s story is now higher on the agenda.

“Colleges Scotland has been a great organisation to develop and lead. I’d like to thank the staff at Colleges Scotland and the talented leaders across the college sector for their support and good wishes, and I will remain in post until my successor is appointed.”

Dr Waiyin Hatton, Chair of Colleges Scotland, said: “Shona is an incredible advocate for college education and has given her all to positively promoting colleges within the educational landscape of Scotland. Equity of funding for students is a particular area of work that Shona has championed, alongside the sometimes relentless campaign for sustainable overall funding for our sector.

“On behalf of the Board I want to thank her for the expertise and energy she has brought to the role of CEO over the past decade which has been of huge benefit to the college sector.”

Colleges Scotland will announce next steps for the role in due course.
