National Bargaining

Colleges Scotland Employers' Association

The Employers’ Association is the forum through which National Bargaining is being implemented by the employers, in partnership with the trade unions, in the college sector. The Employers’ Association is jointly responsible for implementing National Bargaining in partnership with the trade unions.

Colleges Scotland was awarded funding from the Scottish Funding Council’s Strategic Funds, to establish the Colleges Scotland Employment Services team in order to support activities related to the implementation of National Bargaining across the college sector.  Funding of £460,000 was paid each academic year: 2016/17, 2017/18 and 2018/19.  Funding of £435,000 will be paid in academic year 2019/20 and 2020/21.

National Joint Negotiating Committee (NJNC)

The National Joint Negotiation Committee (NJNC) was established to jointly agree terms on issues, such as pay and terms and conditions of employment in Scotland’s colleges in partnership with the trade unions (EIS, GMB, UNISON and UNITE).
