College Estates
Since 2007, the Scottish Government has invested over £810m in college capital projects including new campuses and buildings. A further £300m in Non-Profit Distributing (NPD) revenue funded investment has also been allocated.
Students require access to innovative state-of-the-art learning environments and industry-standard equipment which enhance their learning and prepare them for employment. Many of these campuses now exist, however sustainable investment is required to bring all college estates up to a minimum standard. In 2017, it was estimated that £360m is the minimum investment required to bring the sector’s existing estate up to an acceptable wind and water-tight condition*.
Colleges have signed up to a Statement of Commitment on the Climate Emergency which establishes 10 key actions to support Scotland’s efforts to achieve net-zero climate emissions by 2045, with Scotland’s colleges aiming to achieve net-zero by 2040 or earlier.
