Colleges Scotland Parliamentary Reception was hosted by Clare Adamson MSP. College staff and students showcased how the sector is supporting people throughout their learning and skills journeys and into enhanced careers.

West Highland College UHI’s second year students provided the official photography for the Parliamentary Reception. The students have progressed from Higher Photography into a part-time HNC, being studied one-day per week on the Isle of Skye.

Scottish Parliament (Members' Room)
Colleges Scotland’s Parliamentary Reception was themed around how colleges are meeting the needs of learners and employers post Industry 4.0 and aimed to demonstrate the importance of colleges in helping deliver inclusive economic growth and the fourth industrial revolution.
The event was hosted by Iain Gray MSP. The Minister for Further Education, Higher Education and Science, Richard Lochhead MSP, provided a keynote address.

Dumfries & Galloway College students provided the official photography for the Parliamentary Reception. Through this, the students fulfilled one of the units for their HND Photography course. Photos from the reception can be viewed on Facebook.
Forth Valley College’s Year 2 BA Digital Media students have produced a short video of the reception. The video can be viewed on YouTube.

Colleges - Delivering Skilled and Successful Learners

The Colleges Scotland's Parliamentary Reception took take place on Tuesday 26 September 2017 (1800-2000) in the Garden Lobby of The Scottish Parliament. We showcased innovation and skills in the college sector and provided opportunities to find out more about the valuable contribution that colleges make to individuals, communities and the economy.

The theme for the event was ‘Colleges - Delivering Skilled and Successful Learners’ and was hosted by Liz Smith MSP. The Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, John Swinney MSP, provided a keynote address.

Colleges - Delivering a Stronger Economy and a Fairer Society
The Colleges Scotland's Parliamentary Reception took place on Tuesday 27 September 2016 (1800-2000) at the Members' Room of the Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh.
The event was for members of the Scottish Parliament, the Scottish college sector and stakeholders.
The theme for the event was ‘Colleges - Delivering a Stronger Economy and a Fairer Society’ and was hosted by James Dornan MSP. The Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, John Swinney MSP, provided a keynote address.

2015
Colleges - Delivering a Skilled Workforce
The Colleges Scotland Parliamentary Reception took place on Tuesday 29 September 2015 at The Scottish Parliament. The theme was 'Colleges - Delivering a Skilled Workforce'.
The reception was hosted by Iain Gray MSP with Keynote address from the Cabinet Secretary for Fair Work, Skills and Training, Roseanna Cunningham MSP. Chief Executive Shona Struthers also spoke and highlighted the success of three Scottish students at the recent World Skills finals in Sao Paulo.
The reception provides MSPs with a great opportunity to hear about the work of Scotland’s colleges and to meet with managers, teaching staff and students from colleges. The reception was attended by over 160 members, key stakeholders and at least 27 MSPs.

The Economic Impact of Scotland’s Colleges
The Colleges Scotland Parliamentary Reception took place on Tuesday 29 April 2014 at The Scottish Parliament.
Hosted by Liam McArthur MSP, the theme for the Parliamentary Reception was ‘the economic impact of Scotland’s colleges’. View the publication The Economic Impact of Scotland's Colleges, which illustrates how colleges are key contributors to the economy and provides case study examples of how colleges working in partnership with employers continue to play a vital role in growing Scotland’s key sectors.
Showcase Stands
Throughout the Parliamentary Reception there were various showcase stands, some included state of the art equipment from specialised programmes which colleges lead and deliver on.
Stands included:
- Work in energy sector – oil & gas, wind and marine renewables, plumbing construction and engineering technologies. Staff and students from Edinburgh, Fife, Glasgow Kelvin and Forth Valley Colleges along with industry representatives were on hand to talk about and showcase some of the state of the art equipment colleges are using to deliver skills and training for the energy sector.
- Care – staff and students from Glasgow Clyde, Edinburgh and Dundee and Angus Colleges and some higher education institutions were showcasing examples of successful collaboration models. These included the work of the strategic group for Care delivery whereby colleges, NHS boards and local authorities have worked together to produce a comprehensive map of education and training aligned to workforce planning for Care provision.
- Beauty – students from Edinburgh College were offering a nail bar for guests.
- Music – students from Edinburgh College entertained guests throughout the evening.
2013
Building Futures, Changing Lives
On Tuesday 05 March 2013 we held the Colleges Scotland Parliamentary Reception at The Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh.
The reception was hosted by Liz Smith MSP, and included an address by Michael Russell MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning.
The event was well attended by the college sector, stakeholders and MSPs.
During the event, staff and students from Edinburgh College shared their skills and knowledge in areas such as music, beauty, photography and stonemasonry.
